We aim to advance the academic and intellectual dialogue within the global Muslim community and beyond.

Philosophy

The Department of Islamic Studies is guided by the belief that Islamic studies is fundamental to understanding not only the religion itself but also its significant impact on history, culture, and contemporary global issues. Our educational philosophy is shaped by the following principles:

  • Academic Rigor: Providing a robust academic environment that encourages intellectual inquiry, critical engagement, and scholarly excellence in the study of Islam.
  • Historical and Contemporary Relevance: Ensuring that the study of Islamic tradition remains connected to both its historical roots and its modern-day implications in the political, social, and cultural spheres.
  • Interdisciplinary Approach: Encouraging the integration of Islamic studies with other disciplines, including history, law, philosophy, and social sciences, to provide a holistic understanding of the Islamic world.
  • Respect for Diversity: Acknowledging the diversity within Islamic thought and fostering an environment that promotes mutual respect, tolerance, and understanding of various Islamic schools of thought.
  • Ethical Scholarship: Promoting a commitment to ethical scholarship, emphasizing integrity, respect for academic freedom, and the responsible use of knowledge in both scholarly and practical applications.
  • Global Perspective: Recognizing the importance of Islamic studies in a global context and preparing students to contribute meaningfully to international discourse on religion, politics, and culture.
